Here are some of the layouts I've created for a baby girl's scrapbook page. I've used All About Scrapbooking materials for these layouts.

NEWBORN PHOTOGRAPHY TIPS

Many parents say that one of their biggest regrets is not having taken enough photos of their children as infants. It's understandable. The first few weeks at home with a new baby are a blur and all about the basics -- eating, bathing, sleeping -- for both of you. But time fliesm and before you know it, that tiny 6-week old is celebrating her third birthday. Here are few tips for getting terrific photos of your little one while she's still in that sweet newborn stage.

KEEP BATTERIES AND FILM in your camera at all times. Great photo opportunities happen when you least expect them. Take a lot of pictures: The more you take, the better your chances of capturing that perfect shot.

USE NATURAL LIGHT whenever possible because babies are sensitive to bright lights. Close the window or outside under a shade tree is a perfect location.

IF YOU MUST USE A FLASH, bounce it off reflective surface, such as a ceiling, a wall or a piece of foam-core board, and use room light to enhance the scene,

AVOID UNNATURAL POSES if you can -- they will likely look as staged as they are. Babies can't be posed easily, so you'll have to take photos of them as they are. Palce a blanket in a carrier and photograph a newborn sitting in that, or use a pillow to prop up the baby.

GET ON BABY"S EYE LEVEL AND GET PERSONAL. Fill the frame by zooming in. If the baby is lying down, try to take photos at both 45 and 90 degree angles. Place the newborn on his back and stand over him, photographing directly down.

CAPTURE ALL OF YOUR NEWBORN'S MOODS. Don't wait for a perfect smile. Years later, some of your favorite pictures are likely to be thjose of your baby crying, yawning, sneezing, or frowning.

TAKE PHOTOS OF ALL THE BABY PARTS: the rolls on their legs, their bald little heads, and their tiny hands and feet.

KEEP THE BACKGROUND SIMPLE. A soft blanket or sheet in a light or dark color is perfect. also keep Baby's clothes simple and comfy.

BE PATIENT. Photos need to be taken on the baby's schedule. Plan photos to avoid feeding and fussy times. A sleeping baby is very photogenic.

CAPTURE PHOTOS OF TEH NEWBORN WITH OTHERS, such as grandparents, Mom, Dad, siblings, and family friends, to document those relationships.

CARD ALBUM

1. Choose an album. Be sure to select onethat's large enough to hold a standard-sized greeting card.

2. Create pockets for the inside of your album by scoring and folding cardstock or by stapling wide strips of fabric and/or sheets of decorative-edged cardstock to each page.

3. If desired, leave blank apces where the album recipient can insert her own photographs.

4. Embellish pages as desired with ribbons, stickers, rubber stamps, lace photo corners and more.

5. Decorate the album cover with paints, charms, ribbons, labels and other accent.

GIFT BOX ALBUM

1. Choose an empty box with a lid.

2. Cover the box with patterned paper and embellish with matching accents.

3. Measure the inside of the box.

4. Cut cardstock slightly smaller than the inside of the box. The cardstock will become the "pages" in your album.

5. Hook pages together with hinges, grommets or ribbons. Decorate pages as desired.

6. Glue the back of the last page into the bottom half of your box.

7. Carefully fold your pages into place.

8. Put lid back on box; tie with ribbon.

ENVELOPE ALBUM

1. Cover two pieces of cardboard (heavy cardstock or book board will work as well) with decorative paper. These will serve as the front and back book covers.

2. Die-cut or use a template to create five envelopes out of cardstock the same size as the book board.

3. Place the envelopes between the two pieces of covered book board. Make sure they're each facing the proper direction (depending on how you want the envelope pockets to open).

4. Bind the covers and envelopes together to form a book. You can stitch the pages together or punch holes in the envelopes andattach them with key rings. And method of book-binding will work (consider taking a book-binding class if you're interested in learning more).

5. Attach a closure (ribbon, buckles, clasps) to hold the book book shut.

This can be a perfect gift for a friend who loves collecting photographs. They can tuck photos or notes inside eah page.

PARTS OF A SCRAPBOOK PAGE

After designing the cover, let's now go to the pages of your scrapbook. There are different parts of a scrapbook page, but it doesn't mean it have to contain ALL the parts. What you'll include in your scrapbook page depends on your motif.

KEEPSAKES PAPER: These are acid-free papers from All About Scrapbooking that you can use as your base. You can paste your photos, memorabilias, journaling and other accessories on these papers, and it comes in two sizes the A4 and the 12" x 12". The size of the keepsakes paper that you will buy would depend on the size of your album or scrapbook. It could also be printed or solid colored papers.

PHOTO: For a scrapbook page, you have to select 1 or 2 photos. Choose the best and most creative shot from an event. (Wait for my future posts to get some tips on photography).
All About Scrapbooking have photo frames and photo edges that would add life to your photos.

JOURNALING: Every scrapbook page needs to have a section for the journaling. Here, you have to write something about the event. You can include the 4 W's (What, When, Where and Who). Be creative in writing it and use cute computer fonts. Keepsakes Stickers have a sheet for journaling. If you will be printing on a sticker, you have to print the journaling first in a sheet of paper. Then position the sticker on top of the print out and secure it with a masking tape. Insert the paper again and re-print it.

MEMORABILIA: You can add some memorabilias on your scrapbook pages like tickets, invitations, souvenirs, certificates, baby tags and the likes. These memorabilias would make your scrapbook pages more meaningful.

THE COVER

When you've chosen the perfect scrapbook that fits your taste, you can now start designing the COVER. That is, if the cover of your scrapbook is not pre-designed.

You have to choose the color and materials that would fit the content. If you want to make a scrapbook about your SUMMER ESCAPADES, choose bright colors like orange and yellow. You can also design it with sands and sea shells you've collected from the beach, or a photograph of a breath-taking view taken from the top of a mountain during a climb.

Don'r forget to protect the design of the COVER with a plastic wrapper.

THE PERFECT SCRAPBOOK

I personally want a ring-binder for a scrapbook, and I have a couple of reasons for that.

First, the pages of the scrapbook would pile evenly when you use a ring-binder, unlike the typical scrapbook, which is glued at one side. These ready-made scrapbooks would tend to slightly open when filled with memorabilias.

You should choose a ring-binder with D-shaped loops, because the rounded loops would make the pile of your embellished pages curved.

Second, it would be easy to re-arrange and add pages to your scrappbook if you'll be using a ring-binder. Especially when you're planning to have different sections in one scrapbook.

You can buy a ring-binder and clear pages from any bookstore.

LUNCHBOX ALBUM

Try this project from "Creating Keepsakes"

Choose a lunchbox to use as your base.
Cover the lunchbox with patterned paper. Embellish as desired.
Measure the inside of the box.
Cut cardstock slightly smaller than the inside of the box. These pieces of cardstock will become the inside pages of your album.
Hook the pages together with hinges, grommets or ribbons.
Decorate the pages.
Glue the back of your last page to the back of the lunchbox.
Carefully fold the pages into the box and close.

Things to consider in buying the right Scrapbook:

First, you have to decide on what would be the content of your scrapbook. It could be your photos, concert tickets, logos of favorite resto and the likes or it could be mixed contents. This will help you decide on the SIZE and SHAPE of your scrapbook.
Second, you also have to consider the occasion. Is it about a birthday, graduation, wedding, party, or a tour. The COLOR and DESIGN of the scrapbook will depend on the occasion.
Third, you have to consider your budget. How much money you have for buying the scrapbook materials would be crucial on WHERE to shop.

Making your own Scrapbook:

Here are some examples of handmade scrapbooks. Get ideas from these designers and create a UNIQUE scrapbook that would fit your taste.

Kris created a soft album cover from a common dollar-store placemat. She folded the placemat in half, made button holes with her sewing machine that corresponded with the holes in an 8½ x 11 page protector, and used jump rings to hold it all together.

It’s no secret, women love shoes! With just a few simple supplies, Tara created a bright and funky album called “Shoe Obsession.” The Barbie shoes Tara found at the dollar store make a fun and touchable cover embellishment.

Wendy used inexpensive wrapping paper and a couple of ribbons she already had on hand to cover a plain and boring album cover. Try this technique yourself with gift wrap made for weddings, baby showers, birthdays, holidays and more.
